Our Intimate Country Wedding at Worrowing Estate in Jervis Bay

Whilst George and I had always dreamed of eloping, our families expressed that they too wished to celebrate this next chapter with us. Not wishing to compromise on our dreams, we chose to create a hybrid celebration, where we were still able to have our intentional destination elopement just us two, as well as organise an intimate country wedding with our closest loved ones.

Since travelling is a big part of who we are as a couple, we knew we wanted an intimate destination wedding from the get go. Although we were originally considering getting married in Greece, we ended up deciding to stay in Australia so that the bulk of our friends and family weren’t left behind.

Whilst we chose to stay local, we still wanted our wedding to feel like a getaway for both us and our guests. Since my extended family were meant to be travelling down from France, we also wanted them to be able to enjoy some of the beautiful countryside Australia has to offer.

This led us to choose the unique & secluded south coast wedding venue Worrowing Estate in Jervis Bay for it’s gorgeous untouched land and blank canvas reception space. Located 2.5 hours drive away from Sydney, the stunning coastal country venue features plenty of wide-open space and accommodation for up to 40 people, which meant the bulk of our guests could stay onsite for the entire weekend.

Located just minutes from the renowned white sandy beaches and turquoise waters of Jervis Bay, Worrowing’s 250 acres of private bushland and wild wallabies roaming around definitely made it the quintessential Australian venue, which was perfect for our small destination wedding.

All in all, being able to exclusively book the estate for our celebration meant we had the flexibility to plan and style our wedding exactly as we wanted, as well as hand pick all of our vendors to create our own unique wedding experience. This was by far the BEST decision we made.

Planning Process

I’m not going to lie, the wedding planning process was no walk in the park… Between fires nearly burning down our venue, running into some extended family issues, and having to postpone our original wedding day 3 days before it was meant to happen due to Covid-19, our path to getting (legally) married was riddled with challenges to overcome. Needless to say, the process was stressful and I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.

But in the end, it was all worth it as the day / weekend couldn’t have turned out better. Although my family couldn’t make it from France, they were still able to witness it through a live stream, and everyone was overjoyed to finally celebrate. The entire day felt a lot more intentional & special, which we’re incredibly thankful for.

These memories were captured on Saturday the 27th of February 2021 by Holly at the Evoke Company & Greg from Once & For All at Worrowing Estate in Jervis Bay, Australia.

Takeaway

Although it felt painful to postpone our wedding due to covid-19 at the time, we couldn’t be happier with how things turned out in the end. Yet another reminder the universe knows best. If one door closes, another one opens. If it doesn’t work out, it wasn’t meant to be.

These past few years have been incredibly difficult for so many. My hope is that as we continue to grieve what we’ve lost, we can also learn to be grateful for the things or experiences we’re gifted, as well as be reminded that it’s ok to feel joy and happiness again. May this act as a reminder.
