A wild and tangled kind of love… motherhood in the ferns.
On a warm summer evening as the sun was setting, I met the beautiful Samantha & cute as a button Jones at Audley Hall, deep in the Royal National Park. It’s so peacefully quiet there, and one of my favourite spots for a sunset motherhood session. Samantha was yearning to capture Jones’ breastfeeding journey before it came to a close, but we ended up capturing so much more of their bond than just that.
When it comes to 18 month olds, they never usually want to sit still. That’s where child-led approaches come into my work. We let Jones walk and explore, and captured her tiny hands grazing over every leaf. We also encouraged snuggling with her mama whilst listening to the tune of birds.
The result? Memories mother & daughter will be able to treasure forever. An experience where mum was able to truly enjoy the present moment and let herself be in the here and now. A time capsule recording intimate gestures, the curl of fingers, the wisp of hair, soft rosy cheeks, and the feel of a little heart beating against the one that brought it to life. Magic.
