Love is a strange thing. It often shows up when you least expect it and defies expectations. Unlike popular rom coms lead us to believe, true love isn’t a fairy tale. At least not long-term. It’s messy, raw and hard work – perfect in its imperfection.
And yet, like all things in life that are worth having, love is worth fighting for. And in Iris & Juan’s case, worth moving across the earth for.
After briefly meeting in Spain at a friend’s wedding in 2017, Iris & Juan felt drawn to each other instantly. Whilst the timing wasn’t right then, they crossed paths again a few months later, and knew then and there that what they felt was special.
Although Iris was only there to visit family and was to return home to Australia days later, this didn’t stop them from falling madly in love. After trying long distance and defying time zones to speak every day, Juan threw caution to the wind and decided to go all in for love. Leaving his job, his home, his friends and family behind in Spain, Juan moved across the seas to be with Iris, and hasn’t looked back since.
3 years later, I was lucky enough to document their love story in a region close to their hearts. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees, the Blue Mountains remains an Australian landmark, and the perfect place to celebrate the life and home that they’ve built together over 15,000 km away from their meeting place.
Happy anniversary lovers. It was my honour to capture your memories for you to treasure forever.
